It is not often that we see the birth of something significant, or
even realize its significance. So it is with the establishment of the
IIT in Orissa. For over 60 years, since the independence of the
country, bright students from Orissa had to go elsewhere to prove
their worth and Orissa had not welcomed its share of the bright
students from elsewhere. All this is about to change
dramatically. I look forward to full blossoming of this initiative in
the years to come.
I remain committed to sharing my expertise, interests and hopes with
all those who are involved in this noble endeavor.

I am extremely pleased at the opening of IIT Bhubaneswar and admission of its first batch of students. I am a professor in the Department Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and my research interests are in the areas of databases, data mining, information retrieval, and web technologies. I visit Bhubaneswar very regularly each year, most often in December-January as well as sometimes in June-July-August. I am excited about and look forward to interacting and collaborating with the faculty and students of IIT Bhubaneswar. I am open to teaching a few summer courses and guiding student projects if the opportunity arises. I hope some of the graduate of IIT Bhubaneswar will apply to the University of Texas at Arlington for higher studies.
